Simple Homemade Flax Milk
As you’ve probably gathered from many of my recipes, I heart flax milk. I find it to be a great neutral non-dairy milk great for baking, drinking, or using in creamy soups. This homemade one can be whipped up in minutes and can be sweetened to your liking with dates, stevia, or honey. By simply adding a little more sweetener at a time you can adjust exactly how sweet you like it! Bonus feature, it only takes 1/3 of a cup of flax seeds to make this nutritious delight, making it very cost effective to make at home.

Hi I was wondering if flax milk had any flavor? I make my own hemp, almond, and cashew milk and didn’t know how it would compare…Thank you!

Gabriella, the flavor is very neutral. You can add vanilla or stevia if you would like it sweeter in flavor. Enjoy!

Would this work at all with already ground flax seed? I just bought a big bag of ground flax seed from Costco.

I haven’t tried it but I would think so? Please let me know how it turns out!

I was so excited to make this last night, but it didn’t come out well. Can you help me troubleshoot? I’d really like to come up with a non-dairy milk recipe for my kids. I do not have a Vitamix, just a regular blender. I used organic golden flax seeds, but I otherwise followed the recipe. It came out very sticky, and it wouldn’t strain through a cheescloth (and there were tons of little particles anyway, so those came straight through). Do you think I blended it too long? I’m adverse to a lot of non-dairy milks in the store because they all contain carageenan and gellan gum. Help!

I used a nut milk bag for straining – that part would help the particles seeping through I’d think. As for the stickiness, I’m not sure. Did you sweeten? If so was it before or after straining? You could add more water to thin it out if you needed to. It could be blend time? Maybe just add some more water to start and see if you can thin it out and go from there. And perhaps a nut milk bag instead of cheesecloth for the particles. Hope that helps!

Thank you so much! This will be much healthier than those in the store with gums and will save a lot of money!

Hope you love it!

I was not a fan. It was slimy even after adding water. Maybe I need to water it down more? Any suggestions?
predominantlypaleo says
Extra water should help. Flax and chia seeds are very mucilaginous by nature so extra water helps thin that out!

Do you use raw or roasted flaxseed? I only have roasted on hand.
predominantlypaleo says
I think it was raw, but I’d be curious to taste it roasted, might be good!

How long can this be stored in the fridge?
predominantlypaleo says
Up to a week since there are no stabilizers or preservatives.

i know this is yrs later, but i have been reading and evidently there is a foamy slime layer that needs to be scooped out. havent made yet, but that’s what i am seeing.

Does flax milk have a seedy taste like hemp milk?!
predominantlypaleo says
There is a distinct flavor but it is not unpleasant to me personally
