New year, new you? I mean let’s be a little more realistic. The evolution of betterment happens over a long a$$ time and to be honest, 365 days ain’t gonna do it. There are a lot of opinions out there on how to ring in a new year. Make resolutions, don’t make them, focus on health, don’t stigmatize food, set positive goals, don’t set goals and just roll with it.
I wrote THIS Instagram post about how I do the new year. I like setting goals. I like refreshing my dreams and getting excited again about the days ahead. I get motivated by imagining what could be, rearranging my vision board, and becoming laser focused on those things most important to me.
Every year I do 3 things before the ball drops:
1. I update my vision board
2. I write down my goals for the new year on a white board
3. I choose a word
My vision board has things I want to manifest and are lofty long term visions about my lifestyle, family, and health.
My whiteboard goals are very specific things I’d like to work towards in the specific year ahead. I always include a list for each of my businesses (Blog, Bread, Beautycounter) as well as goals centered around my physical and mental health.
For example, last year I worked to commit to drinking more water, making it to the beach more often, and meditating more to help my nervous system. Setting goals doesn’t mean I always hit them, but setting the intention means that I am more likely to put the work in, which is always a positive.
I also pick a word for the upcoming year. Last year it was “surrender”. I had been fighting so hard for so long and my body was tired. Surrendering didn’t mean giving into illness, it meant giving into change and shifting and taking time to breathe, especially while living in mold.
And every year, because we should ALL strive for this, in my opinion, I am to honor my body. To respect it and love it more and give it the things it needs to be optimal. My body has been through so much, I am forever grateful for it, and its ability to heal in between health challenges. But it can’t do that alone. I have to treat it with kindness and nutrition and extra hugs.
I wrote this recipe for Cilantro Detox Soup because 1. it tastes really freakin’ good and 2. cilantro is a great chelator and liver protectant and 3. bone broth for the new year; yes and more please.
There needs be no guilt in enjoying the holiday season with treats and parties. There needs be no punishment in the days that follow. But should you choose to give your body a little extra healing goodness, I got you. Also… HAPPY NEW DECADE, I can’t wait to see what abundance it brings!Print
Cilantro Detox Soup
- 32 ounces chicken broth
- 1 bunch cilantro (no need to chop)
- 1 onion, coarsely chopped
- 2 tablespoons avocado oil
- 2 teaspoons minced garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1, 14 ounce can of coconut cream
- Sea salt to taste
- In a medium stockpot, saute the onion for 5 minutes over medium heat
- Add the remaining ingredients (hold the salt and coconut cream) and bring to a simmer for 10 minutes
- Stir in the coconut cream and use a stand blender or immersion blender to blend until smooth
- Add sea salt to taste and garnish with extra cilantro if desired
If you want to thicken your soup further, you may add 1 tablespoon of cassava flour into 1/4 cup of the soup and then add the slurry back into the pot
