YIDDISH KITCHEN

December 17, 2014 by predominantlypaleo 16 Comments

YiddishKitchenHeader Oy Vey!!! What a week! In just under 7 days I have submitted my manuscript for Down South Paleo, celebrated my birthday, and am launching Yiddish Kitchen!!

Yiddish Kitchen is a labor of love born from complete desperation. Alright, that’s a little dramatic. But when we looked around for grain free Jewish recipes for the hol- idays (and everyday), we came up pretty short-handed. Sure there were Thanksgiving, Christmas, Halloween and Easter recipes galore…but what about a grain free challah for goodness sakes!? Jewish inspired foods are staples to many “Yiddish Kitchens” around the globe. But when you take away gluten and grain, those kitchens start to look…a little empty to be honest. We love our baked goods and cream cheese but without grain or dairy, celebrating with those foods gets a little complicated. So once we started brainstorming, we be- came passionately inspired to recreate some childhood (and adulthood) favorites. We wanted to take the traditional holiday de- lights and make them edible again for those with food restrictions like ours. All the reci- pes in this book are entirely grain and gluten free and have alternatives to dairy.
They are compliant with a Paleo and gluten free lifestyles, though if you have additional sensitivities, please use your best judgment. YIDDISH KITCHEN In the full version of Yiddish Kitchen, we have put together a menu for each one of the annual Jewish holidays to help you prepare as they approach. This Hanukkah bonus is just a little taste of whats to come. The reci- pes here are certainly delicious year round, so if you are craving matzo ball soup in the summer, be sure to make a pot! And quite honestly, when are latkes EVER a bad idea? Exactly. Never. So if you share in our frustration, we’re here to put an end to your kvetching. So do yourself a mitzvah and discover your Jewish favorites – but without the grain – in this fine book. Not Jewish? No problem (we won’t tell anyone…). Bagels never met a mouth they didn’t love (and who didn’t love them back). Want to learn more?? Go HERE!!! YIDDISH-kitchen-covermock-600

Hi! I CANNOT wait to make the bagels! I went to whole foods yesterday but couldn’t find casavva flour – I definitely can’t use tapioca? Do you have a recommendation for a store or online source? Thanks!

Hi Kathleen, Tapioca is not the best pick – it sort of works but changes the entire form of the bagel and also the amounts of each flour. Look up Otto’s Naturals on FB – this is who I got mine through. They are still “setting up shop” but should be able to ship out soon. You can also look at your local Asian/Latin market. Thanks!!!

Hi Krista, the bonus downloads are included in the book – they were the Hanukkah menu and bagel recipe. You’ve got it all now!

Hi – I really want to buy the Yiddish Kitchen but I’m allergic to eggs. Are the bagels made with eggs? If so, do you think they would work with a substitute? Thanks and congrats on your book!

Hi! I am keen to purchase this book but could you share what flours you use and sweeteners? We don’t really like the taste of coconut flour and cassava flour is not available here. Thank you!

Hi Serene, I believe Ottos can be obtained internationally through a few sources (you might message Ottos to find out more) – regarding coconut flour, there are a couple recipes with coconut flour but many do not have any flours at all. There are plenty of meats, veggies, sides, etc included in the ebook. Thanks!

About

Jennifer is a wife and mother of 3 in pursuit of better health for her family.
After being gluten free for 4 years, and having a multitude of chronic health issues, she realized there was still too much processed “food” in her pantry and change was needed. Jennifer began feeding her family more meals from WHOLE foods and less from boxes. Her recipes are predominantly paleo, meaning they are free of grain, gluten, dairy, and refined sugar, but make allowances for a few treats and sweets. She believes food can be medicine when used appropriately and that a few changes now can equate to huge benefits later. Healthy food does not need to be flavorless and void of personality, which she aims to accomplish through her many recipes.
