With a Homemade Gluten Free Party Mix that tastes THIS good, there’s zero reason to buy crappy overprocessed, store bought. I promise!
Bottom line, making a delicious party mix at home is NOT HARD! It’s fast, you can use whole food ingredients, no preservatives, and extra love. It’s salty and buttery and so dang savory, there is no reason to buy the caca doody anymore. But let’s talk about something else. It’s heavy so skip right on down to the recipe if you aren’t feeling it. You’ve been warned.
Yesterday was kind of hard. If you watched my Instagram stories, I let it all hang out. Normally I try to cope with big emotions on my own, without pulling my community into them; but yesterday, I didn’t. I shared with you that I was feeling invisible. That I was feeling engulfed by the thanklessness of parenting, of blogging, of constantly putting work out there that seemingly disappears into the universe.
I am not a pity party kind of lady. I loathe the victim mentality. I am all for self-advocating, changing things you don’t like, and in general being a warrior. But yesterday just enveloped me. Three kids, always needing something, a husband who has a demanding call of duty, the emotional weight that I carry so that others can feel less burdened, the rooting people on, trying to lift them up, the troubleshooting on recipes, health, supplements I do at no cost TWENTY FOUR SEVEN is just a lot some days.
But the truth is of course that: I love my kids beyond measure. I love my job. I love writing recipes. I love my spouse. And I love my life.
But I’ll also say this. Women carry a different, heavier emotional load. We just do. It’s a lot. It adds up. We keep it quiet so we can keep providing emotionally to others. And we burn out. So last night I came clean about my feelings. I needed other women to feel like I saw and understood those heavy things; because of course, we don’t want to overburden others by sharing the load we carry.
Kind of a heavy post for a party mix post right? Well that’s life. Some moments are playing mahjong with friends, drinking prosecco, and snacking on party mix. Other moments are filled with weight and sorrow, with feeling invisible and unthanked. And so here we are. Vacillating in between those sweet and salty spots and everything in between.
And to celebrate the fun moments, here’s a recipe to share with those you love. Serve it to a crowd of people laughing and sharing in your joys. Prosecco not required.Print
Homemade Gluten Free Party Mix
- 1 stick butter or 8 tbsp ghee
- 3 tablespoons gluten free worcestershire sauce
- 3 cups puffed rice (I used THIS one)
- 2 cups pecan halves
- 2 cups cashew pieces
- 2 cups almond slivers
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Preheat the oven to 350F
- Melt the butter and add in the worcestershire sauce and seasonings over medium heat in a large frying pan
- Add in all the remaining ingredients and fold them over until they are evenly coated
- Keep shifting ingredients in the skillet for another 5 minutes
- Now spread them in a large baking sheet and place in the oven to bake for 10 minutes
- Remove and serve warm or store in an airtight container for up to a week
