Teal Pumpkin Project

Teal Pumpkin Project

How is it Halloween again? Wasn’t it just Spring Break? I swear the older I get the faster time goes. But anyway, it’s here. The kids have picked out their costumes and they’ve been purchased. And now is the time that we pray to the Halloween gawds that they don’t lose the costumes or change their minds before actual Halloween. And yes, they know the punishment is to dig out an old torn rag of a costume from the “costume bin” which looks more like regurgitated candy corn than actual costumes at this point. Aside from that, the real reason for this post is to tell those of you who don’t already know about the Teal Pumpkin Project!  Teal Pumpkin Project

With so many food allergies like nuts, artificial colors, dairy, soy, gluten and MORE, trick-or-treat time can be sort of a bummer for kids who can’t eat a lot of the candy distributed. This of course is aside from the fact that most Halloween candy is made with the most horrible ingredients and is unethical as well, but that’s another story. So what can we do to include more kids without ditching the dress up fun!? Participate in the Teal Pumpkin Project! Teal Pumpkin Project When you display a teal pumpkin outside your house, it’s code for letting other parents and kids know that you have “treats” that are safe for them to explore! You can buy plastic ones already made, available  at Target or at craft stores like Michaels. You can also print off a flyer from the Teal Pumpkin Project website so that people understand what the project does! Granted there are parts of the country where this is much more common and widespread, but even in my currently rural neck of the woods, I am committed to bringing awareness!!! Teal Pumpkin Project

So what do you put in your candy bucket when you are participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project? Well here are some ideas that I’ve been doing for a few years! TEAL PUMPKIN PROJECT

About

Jennifer is a wife and mother of 3 in pursuit of better health for her family.
After being gluten free for 4 years, and having a multitude of chronic health issues, she realized there was still too much processed “food” in her pantry and change was needed. Jennifer began feeding her family more meals from WHOLE foods and less from boxes. Her recipes are predominantly paleo, meaning they are free of grain, gluten, dairy, and refined sugar, but make allowances for a few treats and sweets. She believes food can be medicine when used appropriately and that a few changes now can equate to huge benefits later. Healthy food does not need to be flavorless and void of personality, which she aims to accomplish through her many recipes.
