This Budget Backyard Makeover brought to you by: me not leaving the house in 6 weeks (or more). During a time of great uncertainty, I turned lemons into… a swimming pool!
When it became a certainty that my family and I would not be spending much time out in the free world this Spring (or Summer?), I decided one of the ways to make the Florida heat bearable, would definitely be keeping us cool in our backyard. We moved here last May (and into this house last June 2019), and while we were grateful to have a gigantic backyard for the kids and dogs, it was in all honesty, a big blank slate.
I had dreams of an in-ground pool, a beautifully vined pergola, and wind chimes decorating our back yard. But alas, a pandemic as it turns out, is not the time for incredibly costly investments; at least not for our family. Fortunately, my husband and I are continuing to work from home and we were able to commit to a more affordable project to transform our space. As I write this post, there are still a few loose ends to tie up, but I’ll be back to edit as they are completed in order to add updated photos and links.
You can click on any of the single product images to be taken to the online stores to purchase. Some items were out of stock so I linked to the next closest item. Keep in mind, I didn’t do everything all at once. I had some of the furniture and rugs already, which made the investment a little more broken up over time.

I’m also interested in the coverings, like the awnings. Were those purchased or home-created?
